The emotional transition

Now, the only thing worse than struggling with your transitioning hair for hours is the emotional sprouts that grow from it. Here's a few things to prepare you for and guide you through this challenging yet temporary stage in your journey.

1. PATIENCE Sadly, there is no quick fix to the years of damage our hair has undergone at our hands. We've seen many times how our sisters expect results after the first, second or third wash. While it might be possible for one person to obtain results faster, there is no timeline as to when your hair will begin to flourish. Though our journeys are similar, they each travel through different roads. The best thing to do for yourself, is to have patience. Stressing about your hair and what it is not doing will only hinder your journey. Focus on what your hair is doing and find comfort in that little progress.

2. EXPECTATION VS REALITY We all have or had an image in our heads of what we wanted our hair to look like. Mostly, this image was one of the things that led us to returning to our natural hair. And now we're here and it's not working. It won't do what we tell it to, it won't stay where we put it and it's committed to doing whatever it wants to do. LET IT! Your crown of curls was designed to fit your head perfectly. It will never fit another Queen and another crown will never fit you. Accept your crown for what it really is early in your journey to avoid disappointment later. If you don't know what your crown will look like that's okay too, find comfort in that it was tailor made for you.

3. LACK OF SUPPORT So your family and friends keep asking if you're going to fix your hair before leaving the house? Mine too! At this stage in your journey it is important to grow into a support structure. We have access to Facebook natural hair community groups which were designed for this purpose. These groups offer a platform to women who are or were where you currently find yourself to support and guide you through your journey. They're designed to ignite the sisterhood that you so rightfully deserve. The stories you see on these groups will inspire, motivate and carry you through the first few months of being a newbie.

4. SELF PRESSURE The only thing worse than your family and friends constantly asking you to fix your hair is that voice in your head saying "my hair is not ready to go outside yet". Girl, your hair was born ready! It may not be in its healthiest state but it is yours to own. There is literally no checklist your hair needs to comply with before you can take it for a stroll.

5. DISSATISFACTION I've seen some people transitioning and their hair looks AMAZING but, they're always finding something wrong with it. Whether it be too little volume, some frizz or just mere dissatisfaction. If this is you, please give your hair some credit. Your hair is possibly recovering from years of damage and needs time to remember what it is meant to do. Praise your hair accomplishments, it will do you the world of good. Appreciate the bit of frizz or lack of volume enough to do some research and find a technique to use on your next wash day.

6. COMPARISON

No two people have the same hair. Our hair may look the same, we may be related, we may share DNA but each strand of your hair is unique. For this reason, your hair will not flourish, grow or curl the same way as another. Comparing your journey with another will only leave you or another person feeling less than. There is a fine line between comparison and inspiration, do not confuse the two.

I simply gave to agree @curlgirltae it can be so draining. But we have to keep the end goal in sight

This is something I think we all go through but it's so so important to remind ourselves of the end goal in such times
